2016 Round Up!

As we approach the new year, we’ve been thinking about what we have achieved so far. In the wider world, it’s pretty universally acknowledged that 2016 has been an absolute nightmare. But we wanted to take a second and appreciate the good stuff that’s gone on for us.

We got married!

We did indeed. In October, we had the best flipping wedding day, and were lucky enough to share the day with loads of people we love. For me (Prue) the wedding felt like the best possible way I could have said goodbye to Brighton. I came to the city on my own 9 years ago as a dysfunctional student, and I left having met my wife and some of the best friends I’ve ever made. I knew I was ending my time in Brighton on a high note, and I’ll never forget how it felt on the day.

The fact that we could start our journey as a married couple was amazing, and has the added bonus of making the trip feel like a very long extended honeymoon.

We found Big Red!

This was obviously a really big step for us.  It pushed us to take the leap from daydreaming about vanlife, to actualising it. Had we not found our van, perfect for us (even with all its imperfections) and within our budget, we might still be looking. We might still be in the flat. We might have decided to delay the idea or given up on it altogether. Who knows.

Fell walking

This was something we were dead keen to do as soon as possible. Having to wait to begin our big trip is frustrating, but we were determined to make the most of the place in which we found ourselves spending Winter. The Lake District has been such a great place for us to spend time, and it’s given us a taste of what we want to do.

Learning to go with the flow

A big step for us this year has been leaving our lives and schedule to start living in the moment. It’s a work in progress as it’s surprisingly hard to let go of routine when you’ve been good at it for the last decade, but slowly and surely we are getting the hang of it. We find it most noticeable in the mornings when we spend about ten minutes trying to work out what day of the week it is.

Honourable mentions:

  • We just did our first podcast interview!
  • Meeting the vanlife community.
  • Finding the perfect-sized keep cup which actually fits in your Transit’s enormous door pockets.
  • VAN CHRISTMAS BISCUITS

We are both really looking forward to whatever ups and downs 2017 brings (hopefully more ups….) and can’t wait to share them with you all. Thank you to everyone who has supported our tiny adventure blog so far, wishing good things to everyone for the new year.

C & P x
